A Big Prophetic Warning: Biblical Interpretation and Modern Reality
Biblical Interpretation from Someone with no Training in Biblical Interpretation can offer a unique perspective on how a ministry grows. As a ministry grows, we are often able to watch as it transitions from “Hey, the Bible says this” to “Hey, I say this because I represent God.” The tipping point often comes with a shark-jumping prophetic warning of doom and gloom. Unfortunately, I guess it’s my turn? The Holy Spirit has pinged me to throw some doom and gloom your way.
The Reality of a Future Apocalypse
If you believe that we are not looking at a future apocalypse, you are kidding yourself. Aside from the pandemic that figures out new ways to continue as soon as we get a handle on it, we’re looking at an inescapably different natural environment- largely caused by humanity’s parasitic nature here on earth. Go ahead and deny climate change all you want, but don’t pretend we’ve not been derelict in our job here on earth: “ The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it” (Genesis 2:15). As Zager and Evans said in the 60’s, In the year 9595 I’m kinda wonderin’ if man is gonna be alive. He’s taken everything this old earth can give and he ain’t put back nothing. Woe indeed.
And it gets worse. Greed has encouraged us to destroy the checks and balances in the market so that we can watch billionaires become trillionaires while we hope for trickle-down economics to kick in. At the same time politicians have gotten bolder in removing their own restrictions all while dividing countries against themselves.
Ancient Warnings and Biblical Curses
And it’s not like any of this should come as a surprise, Moses warned us thousands of years ago. However, if you do not obey the Lord your God and do not carefully follow all his commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come upon you and overtake you. Based on the material in Deuteronomy 28:15-25, the following consequences are outlined:
- General Environment: You will be cursed in the city and cursed in the country.
- Daily Provision: Your basket and your kneading trough will be cursed.
- Legacy and Agriculture: The fruit of your womb will be cursed, and the crops of your land, and the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks.
- Movement: You will be cursed when you come in and cursed when you go out.
- Health and Climate: The Lord will strike you with wasting disease, with fever and inflammation, with scorching heat and drought, with blight and mildew.
The Lord will send on you curses, confusion and rebuke in everything you put your hand to, until you are destroyed and come to sudden ruin because of the evil you have done in forsaking him. The sky over your head will be bronze, the ground beneath you iron. The Lord will turn the rain of your country into dust and powder; it will come down from the skies until you are destroyed. That was just for Israel, but we’re facing God’s wrath on a global level now. Woe to us!
The Call to Watchfulness
Now, to assure you, I’m not going to claim the world will end on such and such a date, after all the Bible still tells us, No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come. It’s like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with his assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch. Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back – whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. What I say to you, I say to everyone: “Watch!” (Mark 13:32-37).
