The Prophetic Message of America’s Birth and Future
As Americans and as Christians, both our faith and the country we live in affects how we see the world. One of the keys to understand about America’s founding is that Scripture has been weaved through some of the most monumental moments of our history. America’s identity is bound up in its faith, and if we allow this foundation to erode, it will come at a steep cost.
The Spiritual Foundations of Liberty
Pastor Troy Brewer notes that Leviticus 25:10 is inscribed on the Liberty Bell, which reads, “…proclaim liberty throughout all the land to all the inhabitants.” The reason it’s called the Liberty Bell is simply because of this Scripture, making a prophetic declaration and sending out a sound of Liberty. This happened in a place called Philadelphia, which refers to Revelation 3:7-8 where the Lord says, “Look! I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it.”
The Declaration of Independence was the birth certificate of our great nation, but it was also a death warrant when they signed it. It was a solemn, holy moment that when they put their signatures on that piece of paper they knew, “man, my life will never ever ever be the same again.” As we remember the courage it took these brave men, let’s remember the symbolic message as well that God was with our nation at its conception, making it an open door for many to come and find freedom.
America’s Absence from Bible Prophecy
For many, America’s absence from Bible prophecy raises serious concerns. It is worth noting that a host of other world powers do not appear in Scripture either. The only modern nations cited in prophecy date back to antiquity—Syria, Israel, Persia, and the like. That aside, theories about America’s future abound.
Based on the cultural and historical connections between the United States and Europe, some have speculated that the U.S. will become part of the revived Roman Empire described in Daniel’s prophecy. Others have suggested that invaders or another outside force will weaken the United States, or that America might not play a significant role because it will lose so many Christians in the Rapture. Others worry that America will crumble from the inside due to moral decay.
The Lifecycle of National Decline
The history of world powers like Babylon, Greece, and Rome suggests that the greatest threats to America’s future lie within. Previous empires have followed a specific lifecycle of progression and decline:
| Stage | Transition |
|---|---|
| 1 | From bondage to spiritual faith |
| 2 | From faith to courage |
| 3 | From courage to liberty |
| 4 | From liberty to abundance |
| 5 | From abundance to complacency |
| 6 | From complacency to apathy |
| 7 | From apathy to dependence |
| 8 | From dependence back to bondage |
It is not hard to trace America’s history on that path. We have passed the midpoint and are somewhere in the second half of that cycle—barring a change in course.
Three National Sins That Could Cause God to Turn His Back
Our nation can expect a markedly different future if it exchanges the pursuit of godliness for worthless things like apathy, immorality, and greed. The Bible warns of three national sins that result in God turning His back on a nation:
- The National Sin of Ingratitude: If America hopes to enjoy God’s continued blessing, it will do well to heed Jeremiah’s warning with a grateful heart, remembering how close they had been to the Lord when the nation was established.
- The National Sin of Idolatry: Chaos, factions, and economic struggles have replaced God’s peace and provision because we have pushed Him from the public square to the periphery of our nation’s life.
- The National Sin of Indifference: Christ calls us “the light of the world”, but He has also warned that He will remove our lampstand—our influence—if we stray from Him and do not repent.
Prophetic Warnings for the Modern Era
Now is the Time to Hear and Listen to the Voice of the Lord. One of the most powerful and stirring messages was the Awaken America conference, where believers joined together in heavy intercession for America, a nation in serious danger of losing her blessing and her birthright. Hear what the Holy Spirit is speaking in this time and season, through insight gleaned directly from the Bible.
In a prophetic message, Darren Hibbs recounts a dream where an angel showed him the collapse of the World Trade Center two days before it happened. Later, God showed Darren the building that would replace it. God gave Darren a message that in the day of One World Trade Center's completion, America would hang in the balance. That day is now. Will America choose God's way and receive a blessing or will we reject God and fall deeper into sin and trouble?
