The Foundations and Practices of Christian Healing Ministry

Christian Healing UK is a network of Christian healing organisations and healing advisors across the UK. It is based on mutual support, respect and friendship. The ministry of each organisation is unique, and there is considerable difference in style. All of us are united in our desire to bring Christ’s healing ministry to those in need. Christian Healing UK reflects a re-focussing of our vision to provide a forum for the leaders of Christian healing organisations to come together in mutual respect and understanding to further this ministry throughout our land.

Vision and Strategic Goals

The network aims to become a national voice speaking out on matters concerning Christian healing. It is designed to reflect the biblical principle that when we work together as a body we are more effective than individual members. To achieve this, the organisation works to:

  • Establish a programme of regional meetings to act as a source of encouragement and support to all those involved in the healing ministry, regardless of whether or not they are in leadership.
  • Provide a forum for the leaders of Christian healing organisations to come together in mutual respect and understanding.
  • Become a national voice speaking out on matters concerning Christian healing.

Theological Foundations: Follow the Healer

There is a simple, yet transformative, truth that fundamentally changes the way we think about and approach the ministry of praying for others to be healed. It’s the simple truth that Jesus heals – the healing ministry to which we are called is not primarily our ministry, but Christ’s. What we are called to do is to participate in his ongoing healing ministry. And as his ministry continues today through his body, the Church, he invites us to join him.

In the study Follow the Healer, Stephen Seamands (Ph.D., Drew University), emeritus professor of Christian doctrine, draws upon four decades of teaching theology and active involvement in healing ministry to help us grasp the “why-to” of healing that comes before the “how-to.” He lays out the essential theological foundations for healing ministry in a way that is simple and accessible. This holistic, Wesleyan approach to healing will help traditional evangelicals more readily embrace healing ministry and lead Pentecostals and charismatics toward a more wholistic and discerning approach.
