A Short Review of the 24 Elders of the Judeo/Christian Zodiac (12 Sons/Tribes + 12 Apostles)

There was a rainbow around the throne, like an emerald in appearance. Around the throne were 24 thrones; and upon the thrones I saw 24 elders sitting, clothed in white garments, and golden crowns on their heads – Revelation 4:3-4. Who are the 24 Elders of the Zodiac? Well, they are not Angels because Angels never grow old, and they are not ghosts, because in Heaven all souls are awake and live. Basically, the 24 Elders mentioned in the Book of Revelation has nearly always been understood as the 12 Sons/Tribes of Israel plus the 12 Apostles of Christianity for a total of 24 Elders.

The following two sets of 12 individuals may not be named specifically in the Book of Revelation, but the equation stating: 12 Tribes + 12 Apostles = 24 Elders of the Judeo/Christian Tradition seems to make the most sense considering all the other possibilities. Using the traditional Signs of the Zodiac as a reference point, these 24 individuals can be listed as follows: Zebulun, Joseph, Benjamin, Issachar, Judah, Naphtali, Asher, Dan, Gad, Simeon, Reuben, Levi, Peter, Simon, James, Andrew, John, Phillip, Bartholomew, Thomas, James, Matthew, (Jude) Thaddeus, Matthias.

"Do not learn the ways of the nations or be terrified by signs in the heavens" – for prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. He who made the Pleiades and Orion, who turns midnight into dawn and darkens day into night, who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out over the face of the land— the Lord is his name.
