A Reworking of Graeme Goldsworthy’s ‘Coat-Hanger’ Bible Timeline

The materials are of much help, of profound depth, and info rich and doctrinally sound content, all presented in such a lucid and beautifully arranged visual way! Truly, your work is such a blessing for the kingdom and for each believer who will benefit and grow in light of using this material for teaching and training!

Visual Overview and Formats

This project is a reworking of Graeme Goldsworthy’s ‘coat-hanger’ timeline. To ensure accessibility for different audiences, the following versions have been developed:

  • Bible timeline (Traditional Chinese version)
  • Bible timeline (Simplified Chinese version)
  • A landscape version of the timeline

In order to transform the graphic from a vertical to horizontal format, I’ve had to simplify the text a fair bit. While this has some books, but not all, it serves as a clear visual on the connection and origins of various biblical contexts.

Key Historical Milestones

The timeline incorporates critical dates for biblical study. For instance, next to ‘Jerusalem destroyed’ the chart reflects the year the Temple of Solomon was destroyed, and at the bottom, it marks the destruction of the Second Temple.

Event Year
Temple of Solomon was destroyed 586 BC
Second Temple was destroyed 70 AD

Ministry and Educational Use

These materials are designed to be used in a variety of ministry contexts. Your words are what sustain me; they are food to my hungry soul. They bring joy to my sorrowing heart and delight me (Jeremiah 15:16). Practical applications of this timeline include:

  • Youth Ministry: Wrapping up a series in OT History for youth groups.
  • Church Programs: A ‘Bible in Ten’ series and Bible study booklets for Presbyterian churches.
  • Specialized Studies: Women’s Bible study and Discipleship Training Schools (TAFES).
  • Education: Publicly funded high school daily chapel programs.

Additionally, the resources are being expanded to include items such as the lines of Adam, a map of the Old Testament, and a blank map of the world from Egypt to Persia to help people get their bearings.
