Day 7: Ask for Nations for Breakthrough
Today, we are asking God to give us nations for the sake of Christ. If you need breakthrough, this simple prayer series, 21 More Days of Breakthrough Prayer, is for you. The Lord has led me to write 21 More Days of Breakthrough Prayer simply because the first 21 days were so powerful, but the Lord told me He isn’t done working miracles! So, we are continuing to pray through various breakthrough Scriptures each day.
The Scriptural Mandate to Claim the Nations
Our Scripture verse for Day 7 of 21 More Days of Breakthrough Prayer is Psalm 2:8: “Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations for Your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for Your possession” (Psalm 2:8). Remember also that the Great Commission was not simply a commission to win souls, but rather to disciple entire nations: “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ Amen” (Matthew 28:18-20).
God’s plan has always been for us to ask for nations, just like it has always been for Jesus to ask for nations. Why? We are to ask for nations so we can throw them at the feet of Jesus one day. One day, in Heaven, Jesus will receive the reward of His suffering. Because the nations that we have discipled on His behalf, turning them into His disciples, will be thrown at His feet to be His portion and His spoil.
Prayer Directives for the Nations
In prayer, ask for nations today as follows:
- Thank the Father that He has entrusted you with a job to do here on earth for His sake.
- Cry out to Him to give you international vision for His Kingdom.
- Ask Him to fill you with His zeal; pray that the zeal for His house would eat you up, just as it did Jesus.
- Ask Him to give you a passion for souls to come into the Kingdom and for people to be discipled.
- Ask Him to give you entire nations for Jesus.
- Claim His promise that “Surely you shall call a nation you do not know, and nations who do not know you shall run to you, because of the Lord your God, and the Holy One of Israel; for He has glorified you” (Isaiah 55:5).
- Pray for wisdom and divine strategy to take entire nations for His Kingdom.
Using Fasting for Spiritual Breakthrough
Fasting is a powerful way to deepen your connection with God and access His resources. It’s more than just giving up food; it’s about being filled and transformed by Him. We fast to become more sensitive to the Holy Spirit, seek breakthroughs, and break the chains of sin and oppression (Isaiah 58:6). When we fast and pray, we are seeking a deeper connection with God, asking Him to reveal Himself to us in new and powerful ways.
